St Mary’s and the Parish of Walthamstow are looking to appoint a Schools’ Worker on a one-year fixed contract – with the possibility of discussing a part-time contract, paid over two years, if preferable – in order to build on existing relationships and to develop outreach and connection with schools and youth networks in our parish. 

With support from the Church of England’s Strategic Development Fund, the Parish of Walthamstow has seen real development of both our schools and youth work over the last five years and is now looking to take the next steps in this work. 

The Parish of Walthamstow is a growing parish of two churches (St Mary’s – which is Walthamstow’s ancient parish church, located in the historic heart of Walthamstow Village – and St Gabriel’s, located near the Wood Street area), serving the central Walthamstow and Wood Street areas respectively. Walthamstow is diverse and creative with a strong sense of community and a reputation for caring about social justice and acting together for change. The Schools’ Worker will have a key role in our team, building links across our community. 

The Schools’ Worker will be responsible for serving both secondary and primary schools in our parish, developing partnerships through support for collective worship, well-being, mental health and spirituality programmes as well as hosting school visits, supporting the RE curriculum in schools and developing new opportunities for the church to serve local schools. 

This role is full-time but the Parish is open to discussing flexible or part-time working. 

Please note there is a Genuine Occupational requirement (GOR) that the job holder must be a practising Christian in order to teach the Christian faith with conviction and integrity.
